A modern princess dress for you by Greenstyle Creations (and a tip for hemming knits)

Inspired by the stylish #princesskate, Greenstyle Creations Katie Dress & Peplum PDF Sewing Pattern for Misses is here just in time for your Spring wardrobe.

Greenstyle is one of my favorite pdf pattern designers.  The patterns fit my body comfortably; are quick sews; and are trendy without being complicated.

  • Regular price $9.00, Available today only for $7.00;
  • Misses Sizing XXS - 3XL (size chart on website to view prior to purchase)
  • Knit fabric
  • 3/8" Seam Allowance
  • Slim/Fitted Design
  • Skirt portion has two variations and lengths
  • Sleeve options are short or 3/4
  • Peplum option in two styles
  • 11 Step construction
  • Color Coded Nested Pattern Pieces, No Trim Assembly
  • Fabric Yardage Chart, Suggested Cutting Layout & "Pages to Print" chart
I was surprised that I would like this dress.  I don't often make a fitted garment following the sizing provided -- I like to size up so I have comfort, but still a hint of shape.  When I participate in testing though, I'm committed to following directions and that means making my size . . . . and I am comfortable!

If you're comfortable with sewing knits, or want to give this style a try, I do recommend the pattern. The steps are clear and you'll be finished with this dress before you know it.  Quick, fashionable, and made with your own sewing magic.

I chose to make the A-line skirt and chose to cut the length between the regular and long version (the magic of making your own clothes!)  For me, that made me feel elegant and sexy at the same time.

I ordered this fabric from Intrepid Thread a few weeks before while it was on sale.
It is Art Gallery's Petal and Plume Knit and it is luscious.

Written Instructions are provided to lengthen/shorten the dress. If you need to visualize this process, I have a smart tip here (posted previously).

I chose to gather with a traditional long stitch instead of using my ruffle foot.
The gathering at the bodice is what makes this dress stand out.
A look at the back neckline (minus my long red hair!)

There are photos of the peplum at the website and also lots of gals will be sharing their Katie creations in the FaceBook group here.  You'll find out about all the other patterns offered by Greenstyle (women, men & children), sewing support, inspiration and can chat with the designer of Greenstyle Creations.

HOW TO Quickly Hem Knits (or cheat if you prefer)

If I'm in a hurry, or in this case, don't have navy blue thread for my coverstitch nor my sewing machine, try Pellon products.  My secret cheat.

I placed tape all around the raw edge of the fabric, removed the paper backing, then folded the fabric over.  Press with the iron and you're done!

This Seam Tape is permanent, but you can still stitch over it -- it won't hurt your needle.  Just press it in place with your iron (make sure you follow the settings appropriate for the type of fabric you are using).

Greenstyle Creations Taylor Shorts for Women PDF Sewing Pattern

Yay!  Its here!  You can now purchase the Taylor Shorts for Women (size 0-18) here!

Previously part of the Womens BundleUP offered by Pattern Revolution, the women's Taylor Shorts are now available as a stand-alone purchase from Greenstyle Creations.

There are three length options, flat or pleated front, and a contoured waistband.  There is a zippered fly, but no worries, a video tutorial is provided by Greenstyle Creations on their website here.

This pair of shorts is made with duck fabric . . . isn't it a fun print!
You can find the seahorse print at Hobby Lobby!

I love the comfort of the shorts, and the fact that I can "Taylor" the pattern to fit me using my sewing skills and tailoring knowledge.  Now you can make your own pair of shorts for the summer, in a rainbow of colors and prints to suit your taste!

Since we are all shaped differently (I make a smaller size waistband and take in the back darts a bit more to make my perfect fit), Greenstyle has some helpful guidance for the waistband. If you're a little nervous about making a contoured waistband, watch the video tutorial here.

Here are a couple of pairs I made while testing the pattern.

I used a lightweight Twill above and a Cotton Duck below.

And here is a seersucker pair for my daughter. . . . you may recognize this pair of shorts . . ..

They are the shorts you see in the piping tutorial on Greenstyle Creations website here.

I often take pictures along the way while testing a pattern . . . it helps the designer see how we understand the directions he/she are drafting; and,  in this case, it helps you if you're looking for some guidance for to add piping to a garment!

LOVE my piping foot!

Get started on your personalized pair of summer shorts!

I went to Hobby Lobby and grabbed some of that seahorse duck fabric for ME!

I went shopping wearing my Lille Racerback (Maxi) -- a review of that pattern is here and the pattern can be purchased here.

Greenstyle Creations Lille Racerback - A Sewing Pattern for Day to Night and Inbetween. Plus a Bonus How-To AND Discount Code!

Greenstyle Creations' Lille Racerback Tank or Dress is an absolute must-have pattern!  You can dress it up, make everyday wear, workout wear, sports wear, evening wear, . . . . its all up to you!

You can purchase the pattern at GreenstyleCreations here.  Look around the website, there's lots of PDF Sewing Patterns to choose from, not just women's patterns, but children, teens and men too!

There may be a code at the end of today's blog for a discount!!!!  keep reading . . . .

I love knits -- they are so very forgiving.  As my body changes, I find it much easier to dress in knits and also to sew my own wardrobe to make everything fit my body the way I want it to!  And the cherry-on-top for me with this pattern is . . . . . the Built-in Shelf Bra!!! Yay!

Here are some of the creations I've made with this sewing pattern:

The Maxi Length made custom length for me because I walk fast!

Every Southern Girl Monograms!

 I love Tennis!!!

Now I can make my own Tennis Dresses!

Yep, I embroidered on this too . . . Peace, Love, Tennis

How about some summer evening/date wear?

I used stretch lace here as an accent.

Love how this dress accentuates my curves!

And here is an everyday,
built-in shelf bra
because I'm too lazy, short dress version

 BONUS HOW-TO

I did mention that I was lazy, right?  I decided not to bind my everyday shelf bra dress (above).  I was done.  Tired.  Just mowed the "back 40" (southern term).  This was my third version of the Lille in the testing process (I wanted to make it in as many ways as I had the time for).  I wanted something to throw on after a shower, something that would keep the girls in place, something comfy, something Greenstyle.

Here's what I decided to do:

I used tricot for the built in bra.

Followed instructions in the pattern to attach, and added my own twist . . . .

I stitched my tricot and fashion fabric, right sides together, along the armscye and necklines . . . . . .

. . . . stopping just short of the ends at the top seams.  You'll see why in a moment.

Having this opening (shown above) allows us to achieve the  non-binding method.

Here I am, happy as a clam, but not picture happy (selfies are a necessary part of testing).

I'm happy because my girls are in place, I can be lazy today, and I didn't have to attach binding.  I love the clean look of this!
